We here at Entertain Train extend our deepest sympathies to Robin Williams’ family and friends in the wake of his heartbreaking death on August 11, 2014. As fans of all things entertainment, we loved Robin Williams’ T.V. and movie work, and there is a huge void in Hollywood that will not be filled anytime soon. He will be missed, but thankfully, we can still turn to his vast acting library to remember his brilliance.
With that in mind, our staff came together and somehow came up with our top 10 favorite Robin Williams movies (it was tough choosing only 10). Then we asked the most devoted fans of the movie to give a very brief and immediate reason (i.e., unrehearsed and unedited) why it was worth watching again or for the very first time. Each of these movies will guarantee a laugh, cry and/or time to reflect. Some are well-known, while others might be brand new to you. All of them are proof that we will miss Robin Williams.

10. World’s Greatest Dad (2009)
“This is a VERY dark movie, and it is much more painful to watch now after his death (the movie deals with the suicide of the main character’s son), but Robin Williams was the only person who could have made an uncomfortable movie both funny and strangely heartwarming.”
9. Good Morning, Vietnam (1987)
“I saw this one way after it was in theaters, but it holds up well. I only knew him from the funny stuff he’d done in the past. This was an era that I had only read about in school, but he made it real and personal.”
8. Hook (1991)
Who hasn’t wondered what would happen with a movie character after the camera stopped rolling? This was an interesting take on a Disney classic and classic book, and Robin Williams convinced me that he was “Peter Pan” all grown up.”
7. Night at the Museum (2006)
“This was just a big, fun movie. I love any movie that incorporates history, and Robin Williams as “President Theodore Roosevelt” was a stroke of genius. He played into the caricatures of the larger-than-life personality he was portraying, while also giving him a humanity. He was playing what amounted to a mannequin, after all!”
6. Jumanji (1995)
“I want that game, and I wanted Robin Williams as my dad. This is such a cool movie. I saw it when I was a kid, and it’s one I’ll definitely show to my any children I might have in the future. It’s a feel-good movie, but it has some great action and early CGI.”
5. Dead Poet’s Society (1989)
This was my picture of how college was going to be. I know it was set in a prep school, but it looked like the college campuses I one day wanted to walk. Robin Williams was an absolute inspiration as the English teacher who taught his subject, and life, like no other.”
4. Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)
“I love slapstick comedy. And this is a more modern version of the classics from long ago. When he is cooking and sets his blouse on fire (and the body suit under it), I couldn’t stop laughing. Plus, it is a sweet movie. He played sweet very well.”
3. The Birdcage (1996)
“This movie came out not long before one of my best friends in the world came out of the closet to his parents as a young teenager. It was a revolutionary movie that told an important story, but wasn’t heavy handed in its delivery. It did a great job playing on stereotypes, while also shattering them at the same time.”
2. Aladdin (1992)
“LOVE IT! By the time I saw this one, I was already into the Pixar movies, but the “Genie” stole the show. This is how I always imagined Robin Williams would be in real life. I guess I wasn’t wrong — he too felt trapped and wanted to be free. Now I’m sad all over again!”
1. Good Will Hunting (1997)
“A well-deserved Oscar win for one of the most diversely-talented actors in decades. I was blown away by his performance. To be honest, when he wasn’t on the screen, I was disappointed. Robin Williams made that movie, and he inspired us all.”
